Makita Introduces Two Cordless Top Handle Chainsaws

Makita U.S.A. launched the 18V X2 LXT (36V) Brushless Cordless 14-inch and 16-inch Top Handle Chainsaws (models XCU08 and XCU09). With the addition of these two chainsaws, Makita now offers a comprehensive cordless chainsaw portfolio. Makita’s LXT Cordless Top Handle Chainsaws are compact in size, making them ideal for professional arborists and utility companies.

Built for power, speed and run time

Both chainsaws feature a Makita-built outer rotor brushless motor direct-drive system that provides power equivalent to a 30cc gas chain saw*. Two 18V LXT lithium-ion batteries deliver 36 volts of power and performance.

All that power is harnessed to cut up to 25 percent faster than gas chainsaws,* according to the company. A variable speed trigger and high chain speed (0-3,940 FPM) provide improved cutting performance. For even more power, the torque boost mode helps the chainsaw cut through thick and hard branches. Three sets of 5.0 Ah batteries provide 25 percent more run time than a 30cc gas chainsaw*. *Tested in 7.87-in. spruce log against a Stihl® 30cc Gas Chainsaw (MS193T)

The 14-inch or 16-inch 3/8-inch LP, 0.43-inch sprocket nose guide bar and chain provide precise cutting and bumper spikes help prevent pull-in and aid control. The captured guide bar nut and lateral chain tensioning offer convenient operation and maintenance. Users can automatically adjust chain lubrication with a large oil reservoir. A large oil filling port with a view window allows the user to easily add and check the bar oil level.

A built-in lock-off lever helps prevent the blade from accidentally engaging, while the front handguard is engineered to actuate the chain brake when engaged. The chainsaws feature an auto power-off function that automatically shuts the saw off after 60 seconds for extended battery life. A rear attachment point allows users to connect the chainsaw to the climbing saddle.

The chainsaws also feature Makita’s Extreme Protection Technology (XPT). XPT is a series of integrated seals engineered to channel away dust and water for increased durability. Makita Products equipped with XPT are engineered for increased durability and longer tool life.

Benefits of cordless chainsaws

The XCU08 and XCU09 operate at a lower noise level, providing user comfort and preventing a disruption for neighbors or nearby businesses. With no need for gas, the XCU08 and XCU09 have reduced maintenance and have zero emissions.

In the Makita LXT Cordless system, four key components work together to create the LXT Advantage: fast-charging LXT batteries, a rapid optimum charger,  brushless motors and Star Protection computer controls.

Makita 18-volt LXT Batteries have fast charge times. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection computer controls. Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real-time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. The XCU08 and XCU09 are both available in bare tool and kit versions.
